The past few days I’ve been subjected to Bond movies because my boyfriend has a major crush on Sean Connery. Imagine repeated exclamations about Sean Connery’s cool and suavity and you have an idea of my nightlife. I thought I would get a break after the Bond a deux but now, he’s making sweet love to Clint Eastwood in The Outlaw Josey Wales. (An aside: there sure are a lot of rape scenes in the movie.)
Usually, I don’t care. He can have his movie love as long as I’m able to get to groove to PBS and Gossip Girl. But lately, I’m not feeling this movie monopoly he’s got going.
Bond is a sexist throwback and Clint Eastwood striding around as the squinty-eyed anti-hero who settles scores without uttering a word is dull.
Why does he adore this hypermasculinity on film?
I would ask him directly but he’s too busy drooling.
