Cheesy Song of the Day, July 9:
Where we can see heaven much better…
Hairbrush as microphone, mirror to see if you are doing the dance and hand moves right, and a lot of over the top facial expressions. That’s how I pretend to be a Supreme. The Supremes had it all – glamour, prettiness and those songs! It’s unbelievable that all the elements fell into place at the right time in the right place to make them cultural icons.
And then I got older and read about the behind the scenes of the glamour. The story is familiar – ego clashes, label power moves the dashed dreams of Florence Ballard and the reminder that luck is important too even if you are super talented. It doesn’t take away the love I have of The Supremes, just gave me awareness that the good stuff does come at a price.
Up The Ladder to the Roof is a post-Diana Ross Supremes song and no matter how much I adore Miss Ross, it is one of my favorites. I’m a sucker for handclaps and hope.
