Cheesy Song of the Day, July 12:

Boogie Oogie OogieA Taste of Honey

As a child, I loved the song title most of all. Oogie has to be one of the best new words ever.  The songwriters made a choice to not say Boogie Boogie Boogie, okay? As an adult, I love that the song never fails to make me dance.

ETA: I liked this song before I knew it was disco.  When you are a kid, you don’t worry about specifics, you groove to what moves you. But listening to ‘Boogie Oogie Oogie’ (and hearing on the radio this week) is a reminder why disco was such an important musical and cultural moment — races, sexual orientation and gender came together to dance, bond and exhale.  Powerful.

So here’s  to the power of disco!
