Cheesy Song of the Day, July 16:
‘Moon River‘ Various
It’s official — I’m on a movie music kick!
A rambling walk through Truman Capote’s old neighborhood made me think of Breakfast At Tiffany’s book and movie. I thought of the movie that might have resulted if Marilyn Monroe was cast as Holly Golightly (she was Capote‘s first choice). Or if there are any women as naive as Holly — I understand party girls abound but I’m wondering if there’s any woman who would consort with a known criminal and expect to emerge unscathed. Oh what an innocent time. And would Holly have a reality show? She probably would not but would appear on Kathy Griffin’s chattery.
When I hear ‘Moon River’, I’m reminded of the following dialogue from Midnight In Paris:
Nostalgia is denial – denial of the painful present… the name for this denial is golden age thinking – the erroneous notion that a different time period is better than the one ones living in – its a flaw in the romantic imagination of those people who find it difficult to cope with the present.
It’s a lush way to fall into denial for 3 minutes at a time.
